I have retired and no longer drive to work — should I tell my insurer?

What should you do?
- Update your occupation to retired if that accurately describes your circumstances.
- Ask whether commuting use should be removed.
- Review estimated annual mileage.
- Check whether any occasional paid or voluntary driving needs separate consideration.
What can make a difference?
The result can depend on your level of cover, exclusions, excess, information given when the policy was arranged or renewed, who was driving, and the precise circumstances. Two policies both described as “comprehensive” can still contain different terms.
A change does not automatically mean the premium will go up or down.
If you have retired, the occupation and commuting details on your policy may no longer be accurate. Tell the insurer about the change rather than waiting until renewal if your policy requires changes in circumstances to be notified.
